This is an 18" diameter garden gazing ball that started as a beach ball. I wrapped the ball with sticky mesh and then covered it with four layers of thinset. Next, I drilled a hole in the bottom, popping the ball to prevent any possible expansion. More mesh and thinset layers were added and left to thoroughly dry. Finally, it was time to design the flowers, plants, and critters. It was quite a large amount of surface area to cover, but I love the final product.
